They are huge and amazingly they are herbivores. Hippos are great swimmers and they spend pretty much most of their time in the water. Hippos are even known to sleep in the water. The way their bodies are made they can actually run underwater on the bottom of a river. How crazy is that? They sleep in the water with just their noses above the surface so they can breathe. Hippos can even run on land at speeds up to fifty miles per hour. I would have never thought that something that big could run that fast. What else can I say, hippos are pretty interesting animals.
