Vice police officers criminal arrest Arenstein along with his spouse

Both Arenstein and Orly Katz, his spouse, are busted. The arrests were as a result of production and intent to distribute weed. Both of these individuals work for news organizations. Yedioth Ahronoth, a newspaper in Israel, employs Katz; CBS News Radio uses Howard Arenstein as their Washington D.C. bureau chief. Vice squad police officers busted both individuals when they discovered prepared marijuana in their home.

Violations against Arenstein

Acting on a tip from neighbors, police executed a search warrant on the home of Howard Arenstein and Orly Katz. Both Arenstein and Katz were charged with possession with intent to distribute. Both of the reporters were released on their own recognizance. D.C. law allows them to wait for their trial while outside of lockup. Punishments for the crimes vary greatly. Arenstein could face as little as a few fines or as much as several years in jail.

Weed discovered within the home of Howard Arenstein

The Saturday morning raid at Howard Arenstein’s home was carried out by vice police after neighbors complained about the growing marijuana. The back yard of the house was found to have eight foot tall weed plants. Six two-ounce bags of weed were also found in the home. The fact that the weed was packaged in relatively large packages is what brought up the “intent to distribute” charge.

Employers may investigate Arenstein

Despite numerous requests, Columbia Broadcasting System News Radio has made no official statement about the arrest of their Washington D.C. bureau chief. Some insiders believe the station is launching their own investigation. Simply being charged with the crimes may not be enough for Arenstein or Katz to lose their jobs. Weed use, production, or sale in the District of Columbia is not defensible under any law presently on the books.
