Listeriosis danger contributes to sliced pork and celery 2010 recalls

A bacterial infection called listeriosis is relatively dangerous. It can lead to meningitis, an infection of the spinal cord. A Texas processing plant has been ordered by the TX board of health to recall their product. This is partially because of the risk of listeriosis. That very same bacterial infection led to a recall of pig in Quebec, Canada.

Listeriosis symptoms and what causes it

A bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes is what causes Listeriosis to come about. Humans do not typically get Listeriosis. Newborns, elderly and individuals with weak or malfunctioning immune systems are most likely to get the infection. Listeriosis can cause meningitis too. This can be a brain and spinal cord infection that is serious. Being exposed to Listeriosis does not mean you’ll see symptoms right away. Between 3 and 70 days are needed to view them. Because listeriosis can have such a long incubation period, tracking the causes of the infection can be very difficult.

Listeriosis comes from celery

One produce processor in TX has been ordered to shut down production and recall chopped celery. 10 cases of listeriosis have blames chopped celery for it. It has also brought on five deaths. SanGar Produce and Processing Co. has been shipping Fresh Cut Produce to schools, hospitals and restaurants. The Texas processing plant has been found to have every little thing from hand-washing issues to a condensation leak. Pre-sliced celery in Texas and Oklahoma are impacted by this recall. SanGar Produce has released a statement saying that “independent inspectors” have found no issues, and also the business is fighting the TX Department of State Health Services’ findings.

Listeriosis can come in from chopped pork

A ready-to-eat sliced pig recall has begun in Ottowa, Canada which was started by health officials. Best-before dates of 2010NO12 of Four L. Fortin chopped pork are being recalled. The bacteria that causes listeriosis had been found in this pig according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The Four L. Fortin sliced pork recall wasn’t done due to cases found with the bacterial infection. Canada was the only country to obtain meat goods incorporated in the listeriosis recall.
