BMW recalls 350,000 vehicles because of brake issue

Bavarian Motor Works recall 2010 to affect 350,000 vehicles

Automotive giant Bayerisch Motoren Werke AG – known in The United States as Bavarian Motor Works – has announced a 350,000-plus-vehicle recall of Bavarian Motor Works and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles because of power brake issues that can make braking more difficult. Eight- and 12-cyllinder BMW and Rolls-Royce cars comprise the roster of the Bavarian Motor Works recall. Models involved are the BMW 5-, 6- and 7-Series, as well as the Rolls-Royce Phantom series. In total, approximately 345,000 Bavarian Motor Works and 5,800 Rolls-Royce could be subject to the Bavarian Motor Works recall 2010 around the world. Bavarian Motor Works spokesman Frank Strebe elaborated on the recall in a press release, noting the BMW 5-Series sedan is not involved within the Bavarian Motor Works recall.

Bavarian Motor Works recall due to power brake product fault

According to Bloomberg, some Bavarian Motor Works and Rolls-Royce drivers with higher-mileage vehicles found that they have to push harder on the brake pedal than normal in order to come to a stop. There is no vacuum pressure in the brake pump which makes this happen. This happens because the brake assist module has a leak in it.

Bavarian Motor Works is hoping to get all the cars fixed before any accidents or injuries occur, as there hasn’t been any power brake difficulties reported yet. In the next few weeks, BMW will let all the users know via mail. Strebe says that repairs will take a couple of hours at the really least although users can get free repairs at the dealerships. Further details for North American Bavarian Motor Works customers is available via BMW Customer Relations at 800-525-7417 and consumer.relations@bmwna.com.

Bavarian Motor Works takes a big strike

While Bavarian Motor Works recall repairs could be free to customers, it is unknown at this time how much power brake system default repairs will cost BMW. Bloomberg does note that BMW’s stock has fallen 3.3 percent, the largest mid-day drop since Aug.12.
