Hylands Teething Tablets recalled due to belladonna toxicity

Teething time is an ordeal for children and mothers and fathers. Tablets that help soothe the gums can occasionally be the only thing that permits a good night’s sleep, making them a mainstay for well-prepared moms and dads. Yet Hyland’s Teething Tablets, maybe one of the most popular brand for this very situation, has pulled back the curtain to reveal a scary reality. Hyland is voluntarily recalling the item because of troubles with toxicity, states the U.S. FDA. The teething relief item has some belladonna in it, which can be lethal if ingested in large amounts.

Get all Hyland’s Teething Tablets in the garbage

Make sure you take Hyland’s advice. Get all teething tablets out of your home. Mothers and fathers are told they can go to hylandsteething.com/recall or call 877-496-5044 for replacements that are safe. The consumer service call center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Belladonna has to be ‘carefully controlled’

Belladonna has been used as an anesthetic before. The Food and Drug Administration suggests that it is carefully controlled when being used though. When involving young children, this is still true. Parents are advised of the caution that there were “inconsistent amounts of belladonna” with a laboratory analysis. There have been belladonna toxicity amounts that have showed kids suffering side effects including constipation, rash, confusion, light sensitivity, blurred vision and dilated pupils. The Hyland Teething Tablets don’t have child resistant caps to them. This means it’s easier for children to get into and can cause serious problems.
