In Austin Texas, Car2Go is going official

zipcar5-240X180Soon in Austin Texas, thanks to German business Car2Go, Texans can be seeing SmartCars in an entirely new light. The year old pilot program can be expanded in the car-sharing service to all city and state officials in Austin. Car2Go is a service in car-sharing that charges users by the minute of their SmartCars, a model that is apparently becoming popular in big cities.

Car2Go and how it works

A auto sharing system that places a large number of cars in an urban area is called Car2Go. “Members” of Car2Go can then use their intelligent card to rent the cars by the minute. Car2Go cars could be picked up or dropped off within the Car2Go area. At about 35 cents per minute of rental, the Car2Go system bridges the gap for urban residents that do not have a auto, but at times have need of one.

Car2Go or ZipCar

As an American company, founded in 2000, ZipCar is currently operating in 49 U.S. cities also as in Toronto, London, and Vancouver. After getting the Flexcar on board in 2007, ZipCar had about 50 percent of the auto sharing in their hands. ZipCar relies on "members" that use the membership card to unlock and rent ZipCars just like Cars2Go. ZipCar is also partnered with numerous universities and businesses that want to help commuters and students time-share their cars.

The Benefits of sharing cars

ZipCar and Car2Go represent just two of the large number of car-sharing services in the US and around the world. Cities in the US such as Minneapolis-Saint Paul ,Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Denver, New York City, Boulder, San Francisco, and Buffalo have all started a car-sharing business. These car-sharing systems reduce congestion, increase flexibility, and tend to be much more environmentally friendly. Also, large companies such as Car2Go and ZipCar will use electric and hybrid cars which will increase the overall fuel efficiency for hundreds of individuals in each city.
