One of the sultry stars of True Blood, Anna Paquin reveal her bisexuality on the Give A Damn ad. The Give A Damn site has been going down occasionally because of server overload.
What Anna Paquin’s bisexuality means
When she says she is bisexual, what does Anna Paquin mean? Typically, bisexuality means a person is sexually attracted to both genders. Some self-identified bisexuals are equally attracted to either gender. Other self-identified bisexuals have a slight preference for one gender or the other. The Klein Sexual Orientation Grid and Kinsey scale both codify this spectrum of sexuality. Both scales use a 0-6 scale; 0 is heterosexual and 6 is homosexual. In most cases, individuals who fall in the 3-5 range self-identify as bisexual.
Other celebrities join Anna Paquin
The Give a Damn campaign tapped numerous celebrities in addition to Anna Paquin. Cynthia Nixon, Wanda Sykes, Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Jason Mraz, Judith Light, Kim Kardashian, Kevin Alejandro, Eric Roberts, Sharon Osbourne, and Kelly Osbourne all speak out in the advertisement. While some of these celebrities are very openly gay, lesbian or bisexual, others are straight.
Taking on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
The Give A Damn PSA speaks out first condemning hate crimes targeting GLBT people. It also takes on the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy without specifically bringing it up. The DADT policy is currently under review by the government. Many GLBT youth and members of the military are forced to get cheap payday loans after their support systems have crumbed beneath them. The Give A Damn campaign aims to reinforce laws and provide assistance to fix problems like this.
