Sprinting the New York City Marathon?

TheNYC Marathon is only 213 days away!Training for the 26.2 mile race is grueling, and if you have not started training for the NYC Marathon, now is a great time to start. Only about 38,000 runners are allowed into the NYC Marathon entry pool and the lottery today pulled those entry names. If your name didn’t get pulled by the NYC Marathon lottery, you can still run to get instant money for charity.

New York City Marathon in History

The NYC Marathon originally started with 40 runners starting the New York Road Runners in 1958. The NYC Marathon runs through all five city boroughs. The tough course, doubled with the support of the New York Road Runners, also makes it one of the best marathons in the United States. The New York Road Runners still continue to operate the NYC Marathon, though they have added ING as a “title sponsor”

The Lottery for the New York City Marathon

The NYC Marathon always gets more applications than the route can manage. In order to deal with this, the NYRR and ING (the NYC Marathon title sponsor) hold a “runner’s lottery”. The NYRR Marathon web site will tell you in case you are in the marathon or not. You can get quick cash for charity by sprinting within the marathon, even if you didn’t get in.If a runner chooses to not use their 2010 lottery spot, canceling can get them a guaranteed spot in the 2011 NYC Marathon.

Training for the NYC Marathon

If you are preparing on running the NYC Marathon, or any other marathon, training is the most important thing. Even athletes who run every day consider marathons a physical challenge – and for good reason. Physically conditioning yourself is as important as nutrition and hydration. If you need help training for the NYC marathon, the New York Road Runners offer online training, 10 and 15 week training programs, 10K and half-marathon training choices and more.If you need to run a marathon or not, starting sprinting can be a good way to start your summer.
