I don't know if this is a common thing or not, but my family also named some of our cars. I’m not sure what the big deal about naming things is, but people do like to name all sorts of things. They name their cars, clothes, trees, computers, kitchen gadgets, and anything else that they can. Maybe they think that by giving things names it’s like they are now part of the family. They can feel more connected to them and it’s like they have more of a sense of ownership. I don’t know, people are weird when it comes to inanimate objects that don’t need human names.
