Tyler Clementi kills himself over illicit Rutgers sexual intercourse tape

ABC News reports that Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old freshman at Rutgers University in New Jersey, has committed death after learning that what he thought was a private homosexual encounter in his dorm room was broadcast live online. According to reports, fellow students Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei were responsible for secretly monitoring Clementi with a webcam during a same-sex intimate encounter and transmitting the encounter live on the Internet. Regrettably, after a farewell note on his Facebook page, Clementi went and jumped off a bridge. Being outed in such an exploitative fashion seems to are too much for Clementi to bear.

Tyler Clementi said goodbye

At 8:42 p.m., a Facebook post was put up by Clementi declaring, "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry" on September 22. Clementi’s body has not yet been reported as found, although an unidentified male body was found by New Jersey authorities in the Hudson River just north of the bridge. A wallet containing Clementi’s Rutgers University student ID and driver’s license was found nearby.

Clementi was praised for how good he is with music along with his good personality in a statement the Clementi family attorney, Paul Mainardi put out confirming his suicide.

The majority are saying, ‘I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.’

Fellow Rutgers Scarlet Knights Ravi and Wei have been charged with 2 counts apiece of invasion of privacy for transmitting Tyler Clementi’s homosexual encounter via iChat, according to prosecutor Kaplan. Ravi even made note of the event on his Twitter page, where he tweeted on Sept. 19 that:

“Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”

Ravi had another tweet to post 2 days following the broadcast:

“Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it is happening again.”

Wei and Ravi need to go with the police force

Though they surrendered to police, neither Ravi nor Wei remains in New Jersey police custody. As a result of her recognizance, Wei was able to be released from jail, reports ABC News. On the other hand, Ravi had to shell out a $25,000 bail to get out. More information could be discharged as the investigation continues.
